Goals of the Transportation Research Institute include:
- Establishment of nationally-recognized research and development programs, which involve the creation of research projects and partnerships with transportation-related companies and associated suppliers, federal and state agencies, governmental laboratories and other universities. Infrastructure resources available include research laboratory space and equipment, which will be enhanced through investment in the Institute's programs.
- Enhancement of the undergraduate and graduate educational programs in transportation through the development of interdisciplinary courses, seminars, research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, and summer internships with governmental laboratories and industry. The program will prepare the next generation of engineers to meet the technological challenges of the transportation field.
- Ability to serve and assist regional and national transportation-related industries and government agencies in the development of transportation technology and economic growth of the State.
